O.M.G. -- let's just say my reaction was all wrong and I knew it before I even completed my sentence. Mind you, I didn't really go too crazy with my scream -- especially since I noticed pretty quickly that my sweet SENSITIVE girl's face quickly went from smiley and proud to hiding between my leg with tears flowing from her eyes. As hard as I tried to fix my reaction, it was too late. Boy, did I feel horrible.
I quickly tried to tell her how beautiful her stickers looked on my beautiful maple side table. But honey, stickers do not belong on furniture, they belong on paper. (thanks, Omi!) I gave her some paper and she continued to put stickers on the paper while I worked to remove the stickers before they sat on the table too long. While it helped a little, the damage to her spirit was done. Moments later she said, "I'm sorry, mommy". Oh, my heart.
Anyway, I really need to work on my reaction to certain actions. This isn't the first time it has happened, but it was one of the more eye-opening instances. I suppose I should be thankful that she didn't or hasn't painted or written on any walls ... yet!

Oh Jackie! I am so glad that they came off, and I totally understand what you are saying -- we have to be masters in disguise all the time with our little sweet and sensitive chitlins.. but, they do need to learn certain things -- it sounds like you did a great job deflecting and she recovered well... and hopefully your table did, as well...
I've had those heartbreaking moments with my sensitive boy, too. Fortunately, they do get over it and bounce back. I also feel that it teaches me to be less reactive about daily ups and downs. Glad your table is OK!
Oh my! I can only imagine what my first reaction would be - I'm sure it would be similar! My niece discovered that my pine dining room table was the perfect spot to carve designs - ACK! I reacted similarly to you! Now we laugh about it - sort of - still makes me mad sometimes though to see her little smiley faces in my pretty table! Ha!
Glad they came off!
I have many a reaction I wish I could take back..you are not alone. FYI Mr. Clean magic erasers are well worth the few dollars...Anara decided to try her hand at wall art a year ago. Not sure what got into her!
I've been finding stickers all over the house and trying not to have a "reaction". For the most part D is pretty good at putting them only on paper and on body parts (his and everyone else's). I try and get stickers that come off easily so I walk around peeling them off. But for some reason, he has become extra fascinated by them lately. Fortunately, he is also fascinated with reading books lately so we have a sticker chart that we use for every book he reads. That deflects some of the stickering energy.
